Assessment and Evaluation of 60-kW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant in Tamil Nadu

This paper discusses the performance investigation of a 60-kW solar PV power plant at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, India. The plant is located at 12.8230° N, 80.0447° E with an average annual temperature of about 28.5 °C and average global solar radiation of 5.82 kWh/m2 day. This plant is installed on 12/06/2018. This 60-kW plant is evaluated by comparing the yield obtained in 2020 with the PVSyst simulation. The performance ratio analysis is assessed through PVsyst 7.2 version software. The cumulative energy yield from the plant in the year 2020 is 82.5 MWh. The comparison is extended by comparing the real-time results with the simulated results, and the inferences are studied. The main objective of this paper is to ensure that the solar PV system installed is operating as designed and check ways to optimize the plant performance. To achieve the objectives, actual plant data, such as solar radiation data, yield, and performance ratio, are compared with the simulated results. Finally, the paper suggests ways to optimize the performance of the plant installed in the location mentioned.
