Source Identification Issues in Environmental Forensics

An environment is the external conditions, resources, stimuli etc., with which an organism can interact. The combination of analytical and environmental chemistry for the purpose of legal and justice establishment can be termed as environmental forensics. The field of environmental forensics has a gradual growth over the past research years and has expanded widely over the fields of oil spill identification and toxic metal contamination, even the advancement of techniques related to the identification of petroleum sources and contamination sites using radio isotopes. The dynamic techniques and newly found applications, such as As speciation, Pb isotopes, and PAHs molecular ratios, were useful to categorize the cluster groups on the basis of distinct pollution sources, lifting up the field into new opportunities and applications of forensics to sink with the environmental sciences. The chapter deals with the source identification issues related to environmental forensics, which in turn discusses the problems related to the field of environmental side via forensic support to enlist the sources that cause and the methods for the identification and analysis. Moreover identification, preservation, and analysis are the major stepping stones of any analytical research.
