Advances in Fall Detection Using Artificial Intelligence

Falls have been known to cause serious concerns among the human beings, especially when it comes to elderly, children, and people working on construction sites or living in high-rise buildings. Falls can lead to serious injuries, long hospital stays, rehabilitation, mental trauma as well as death. With the advancements in the fall detection technology through sensors, there has been an increase in the safety as well as in detection of these falls within an appropriate time to reduce the complexities. This paper elaborates the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing the fall detection system more accurate as well as effective by reducing the False Alarm Rate (FAR), missed events, latency, etc. The paper also reviews the common machine learning algorithms used for the detection of fall events as well as compare the parameters for the system with or without these algorithms.
