The recovery process after socio-natural disasters is complicated since they are influenced by both natural and human elements. Traditional management practices frequently fail to consider long-term implications, contributing to the high failure rate of disaster recovery efforts. This chapter provides a comprehensive examination of disasters and the available studies in the field of disaster risk reduction by presenting a comprehensive framework that incorporates aspects such as pre- and post-disaster stages, stakeholder viewpoints, and system thinking. Dissecting critical success variables and how they interact with one another provides a methodical framework for better and longer-lasting disaster recovery, closing the gap between theory and practice.
