Efficiency in urban resource management goes beyond conventional ideas of operational simplification and cost reduction. Efficiency is rethought in advanced cities as a systemic catalyst that promotes circular resource flows, sustainable consumption, and the revitalization of the built and natural surroundings. The way that cities use, process, and return resources to their ecosystems needs to be drastically reevaluated in light of the world’s fast increasing urbanization and the resulting demand for resources.
