Evolution of Models for Territorial Space Use Efficiency Research

This chapter focuses on the evolution of models for TSUE research. It first traces the origin and development of TSUE, which derives from land use efficiency, and clarifies its close connection with national policies, especially the shift from “land use” to “territorial space use” in China. Then, it systematically reviews the research on indicator system construction models, noting their evolution from single-factor to multi-factor and ultimately to comprehensive frameworks, while pointing out the subjectivity in indicator selection and neglect of geospatial effects. It also classifies efficiency measurement models into three types and analyzes their advantages and limitations, emphasizing that traditional models fail to consider geospatial effects. Finally, it summarizes the application of prediction models and their shortcomings, concluding that current research lacks sufficient consideration of geospatial effects, laying a foundation for subsequent model improvement.
