Sverdlovsk Oblast

摘要

Sverdlovsk Oblast had 5 governors and 6 changes of power if counted from the last chairman of the Soviet, with 4 of those changes concentrated in the 5 years from 1990 to 1995. The earliest leader of the federal subject, Rossel (Россель Э.Э.), was dismissed by Yeltsin in 1993, and then returned to office through election in 1995. During the 2 years between his dismissal and return, Rossel’s former deputy Trushnikov (Трушников В.Г.) and Strakhov (Страхов А.Л.), a political elite from the capital city of Yekaterinburg, successively headed the regional administrative organs. After winning in 1995, Rossel then remained in office for two further terms and controlled regional politics for 14 years. After Rossel resigned in 2009, Sverdlovsk Oblast entered a stage of state appointment: first Misharin (Мишарин А.С.), a governor parachuted in by the state, took charge, though he resigned before completing a full term; he was then succeeded by Kuyvashev (Куйвашев Е.В.), the presidential envoy to the Urals Federal District, after which Sverdlovsk Oblast entered another relatively long period of stability. By 2022, Kuyvashev had already served two consecutive terms totaling 10 years.
