Evaluation of Engineering Properties of Sandy Soil Stabilized with RBI Grade-81 Stabilizer

摘要

The present study aimed to examine the effects of Road Building International (RBI) Grade-81 stabilizer, a revolutionary inorganic and eco-friendly additive, on the engineering properties of sandy soil. For this, various performance evaluation experiments such as Compaction, Unconfined Compression Strength (UCS), Permeability, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR) were carried out. The different dosages of RBI grade-81 used in the present study were 2, 4, 6, and 8%. In the test result of compaction characteristics, it was found that the RBI Grade-81 stabilizer decreased maximum dry density and increased the optimum moisture content of the soil samples. The maximum reduction in permeability value was found to be 71% at 6% RBI Grade-81. The UCS value of the soil at 6% RBI Grade-81 was two times higher with respect to the untreated soil at curing period of 14 days. Further, the UCS values increased proportionally to the curing periods. The CBR value of the stabilized soil under unsoaking and soaking states increased significantly with the stabilizer. The maximum increase in CBR values at 6% RBI Grade-81 were 48.22% and 58.65% respectively for soaking and unsoaking conditions. In concluding remark, RBI Grade-81 can be optimized up to 6% as a promising stabilizer, especially for heavy rainfall areas like Arunachal Pradesh state region and sandy subgrade.
