Optimizing Healthcare System Performance with Smart Device Usage in Cloud-Fog Systems

摘要

As society has undergone a transformation in lifestyle, and IoT-based devices has become increasingly integrated into the healthcare system, a multitude of applications has surfaced in modern healthcare facilities, revolutionizing medical data processing. The market is now flooded with smart devices such as smartwatches, smart bands, smartphones, and various wearable sensors designed for continuous health monitoring which has led to a substantial increase in data generation. Thereby, amplifying the data processing load on data centers, which, in turn, presents a significant challenge for researchers. Additionally, there are several cooperative and network-related challenges which includes but are not limited to network utilization, power consumption, latency, and data traffic within healthcare systems. The present paper proposes two key strategies: (1) an efficient policy for prioritizing essential tasks and (2) executing the tasks on cloud, fog only, and a hybrid of cloud-fog nodes. These strategies aim to enhance the Quality of Service (QoS), time, network, and energy consumption. The performance of the system was evaluated in terms of cloud, fog, and hybrid cloud-fog systems. The results were verified using various datasets of sensors and cloud, fog devices. The simulation tool WorkflowSim was employed for this study.
