Environmental Impacts of Diesel Power Plants: Impacts, Alternatives, and Transition Strategies

Diesel power plants cause significant harm to the environment by through the emissions of greenhouse gases, and air pollutants lie carbon dioxide (CO2), air pollutants like Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) & Particulate Matter (PM2.5), responsible for impacts like climate change, smog, acid rain, and serious respiratory/cardiovascular health issues. The plants also produce noise pollution, fuel spills, impacting ecosystems and human health. The diesel power plants play a crucial role in the supply power in developing countries. However, as the world is committed to the Net Zero by 2050 targets, there is more traction to address their environmental impacts and emission. In this paper, the various environmental impacts of diesel power plants are presented and mitigation measure suggested. The environmental challenges of diesel power plants are associate with substances emitted like nitrogen oxides (NOX), Sulphur oxides (SOX), carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (soot), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon dioxide (CO2).
