Bridging Depth and Breadth: A Comparative Analysis of Sustainable Construction Postgraduate Education in Egypt and the UK

The construction sector faces growing demands for sustainability and digital transformation, requiring professionals skilled in environmental and technological integration. This paper compares two postgraduate programs: the MSc in Sustainable Engineering Design & Construction at the British University in Egypt (BUE) and the MSc in Construction and Project Management at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Using mixed-methods analysis combining qualitative thematic coding and quantitative credit-weighted mapping, the study evaluates how both curricula embed sustainability and Building Information Modelling (BIM). BUE adopts a specialist model focused on sustainability and digital fluency, while QUB offers a generalist approach emphasizing management, law, and professional practice. The findings reveal complementary paradigms producing distinct yet interdependent graduate profiles aligned with industry needs. A hybrid framework is proposed to integrate specialization depth with managerial breadth, offering a model for future transnational curriculum design in sustainable construction education.
