Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools with CBLP Lessons
摘要
This chapter delves into the potential of integrating AI tools with corpus-based language pedagogy (CBLP) lessons. These AI facilitations include (but are not limited to) AI chatbots (e.g., ChatGPT), AI video or picture generators (e.g., Midjourney), and automated language assessment tools (e.g., Duolingo). We first discuss recent research findings on the affordances and limitations of integrating AI tools into CBLP practice, before presenting three lesson designs that feature AI integration with corpus websites or tools. These designs demonstrate how AI can complement CBLP by providing natural language methods for accessing and interpreting corpus data, thereby reducing teachers’ and students’ cognitive workload and enhancing both teaching and reflective practices. Moreover, the authenticity of working with corpus data reduces the impact of identified limitations of working entirely with AI-produced data, e.g., hallucinations. This chapter therefore encourages educators to consider the benefits of AI in their CBLP teaching strategies, ultimately aiming to improve the overall quality of language education.
