摘要

This chapter introduces the foundational concepts of corpus linguistics and its relevance to language education. The first section begins by defining what corpus linguistics is, providing a brief history of its development and its widespread attention in research over recent years. The second section introduces the concept of Corpus Literacy (CL), with support from empirical research studies into what CL is, how it may be attained, and why. The third section then informs readers about how corpus linguistics has been applied in language education in the form of Data-Driven Learning (DDL). Through this review, the chapter reveals the importance of enhancing teachers’ CL to expand their teaching repertoire, empowering them to make use of corpora in language teaching. After reading this chapter, readers will learn the possible benefits of increasing CL for their teaching competence in the form of working with engaging learning materials and producing DDL activities involving real-world, authentic examples of language in use.
