The Potential of Electroencephalography in Enhancing Golf Chipping Performance: A Systematic Review

Electroencephalography (EEG) technology has emerged as a valuable tool in sports science, particularly in assessing cognitive and motor processes relevant to athletic performance. By capturing real-time brain activity, EEG provides insights into attention, motor planning, and emotional regulation, which are crucial for optimizing performance. In golf chipping, EEG studies have identified neural patterns associated with expertise, such as increased alpha synchronization, which reflects a state of relaxed focus. Neurofeedback training based on EEG data has shown promise in enhancing cognitive control, improving accuracy, and reducing performance anxiety. Despite its advantages, EEG faces challenges such as susceptibility to artifacts, low spatial resolution, and accessibility concerns. Future advancements in signal processing and the integration of EEG with other neuroimaging techniques may enhance its applicability in sports training. As neurotechnology evolves, EEG is poised to play a significant role in refining skill acquisition, optimizing training interventions, and unlocking athletic potential in various sports disciplines.
