Analysis of Health Mechanisms of the Digital Landscape Environment in Game Media: Illustrated Using the Case of Sky: Children of the Light

This study investigates the health mechanisms of digital environments in gaming media, aiming to provide a theoretical foundation and practical insights for applying gaming media in mental health interventions. The study used questionnaire surveys and participatory observation. Using convenience sampling, 154 valid participants were recruited from among the players of the smartphone game Sky: Children of the Light. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and a stress-relief effectiveness scale were administered. Descriptive statistics, reliability and validity testing, correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression were conducted using SPSS 19.0. Players’ stress scores significantly decreased after experiencing the game’s digital natural landscapes. Visual (color, lighting), auditory (music, natural sound effects), and interactive (social interaction) elements of the landscapes received moderately high ratings (mean = 3.79–3.99). Multiple linear regression revealed that in the interaction dimension, “chatting with friends/strangers or idling” had the strongest predictive power for stress relief (β = 0.245, P < 0.05). Digital natural landscapes in Sky can significantly reduce short-term stress through audiovisual immersion and social interaction. However, these effects are temporary and context-dependent, underscoring the need for rational engagement to prevent overindulgence.
