The Impact of Recreational Diving Participants’ Marine Environmental Volunteer Literacy on the Development of Coastal and Rural Leisure Sports Environments

Background: Although humans have extensive experience in promoting ocean diving activities, tourism development continues to have negative impacts. Therefore, we aim to preserve marine ecological diversity and water quality by enhancing the knowledge and skills of marine environmental volunteers. Objective: This study investigates the influence of public marine environmental volunteer literacy on the development of coastal and rural leisure sports environments. Methods: A total of 300 participant responses were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation analysis. Interview data were subsequently collected and triangulated through multivariate analysis. Conclusion: Public understanding of marine environmental issues—including cognition, attitudes, and behaviors—is inconsistent. Moreover, marine environmental literacy significantly influences the development of marine ecology, leisure sports environments, rural society, and community environments (p < 0.05). Behavioral engagement appears to exert a stronger influence than cognitive awareness. Recommendations: Sustained implementation of marine environmental literacy education, advocacy policies, and public conservation initiatives is essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine ecology and leisure sports environments.
