Environmental Education at the Limits: Accelerating and Deepening Educational Responses to the Climate Emergency

  • Pablo Ángel Meira Cartea

摘要

This concluding chapter offers a critical reflection on the trajectory and limitations of Environmental Education in the face of climate emergency. The author argues that Environmental Education has often failed to confront structural drivers of ecological crisis, aligning too closely with the growth-oriented paradigm of sustainable development. In response, it calls for a disruptive reorientation positioning Environmental Education as a counter-hegemonic praxis. The text highlights four guiding imperatives for rethinking the field: a moral duty to reduce suffering, an ontological awareness of planetary limits, a strategic recognition of human eco-dependence, and a political commitment to democratic sustainability.
