Camel Zoonoses: The Link to Human Disease

  • Abdelmalik Ibrahim Khalafalla

摘要

Zoonotic diseases transmitted from camels to humans are an emerging public health concern, particularly in regions with close human-camel interactions. This chapter reviews key camel-associated zoonoses, including MERS-CoV, brucellosis, plague, and Rift Valley fever, and examines their transmission through direct contact, consumption of raw products, and cultural practices. It highlights the role of camels as reservoirs, the influence of environmental and socioeconomic factors, and the challenges in surveillance and control. Emphasis is placed on the importance of integrated One Health approaches to improve prevention, monitoring, and preparedness for future outbreaks.
