A Vision for Relationality and Affect Through a New Constellation of Meanings: The Theory of Practice Architectures Meets Knowledges from the Global South and East

The Theory of Practice Architectures (TPA) explores conditions of possibility through a focus on praxis. The critical emancipatory expression of this seeks to make more equitable and inclusive futures possible. This chapter explores relational and affective aspects of conditions of possibility that might be understood by bringing TPA into contact with ideas from the Global South and East. This is not about merging epistemologies, but respecting the autonomy of diverse ways of knowing. This can create new constellations of meanings replete with swerving and rebellious possibilities. Specifically, the chapter engages with Latin feminist ideas of feeling-thinking, and notions of liberation (mukti) and One and Many from Eastern (Vedic) traditions. Theoretical points are illustrated with reference to practices that exclude families with children who use a feeding tube rather than feeding orally. A more inclusive vision is proposed, drawing on plural understandings of relations and affect. The role of educational praxis in producing transformation on these lines is discussed.
