Simulation of Friction and Torque in Large Displacement Wells Based on Well Trajectory Similarity

摘要

Practical implementation of precise three-dimensional finite element drill string dynamic simulations for friction-torque forecasting faces constraints due to their substantial computational requirements and dependence on specialized expertise. Within identical geological formations and target reservoirs, friction-torque fluctuations mainly stem from variations in wellbore paths, given the relative consistency of other crucial parameters (casing program, drilling assembly, drilling fluid). This approach centers on establishing quantitative relationships between friction-torque characteristics and the geometric parameters of vertical segments, curved intervals, and tangential sections. By utilizing these quantified relationships, the study develops a well trajectory similarity model that achieves three critical improvements compared to complete dynamic modeling: significantly lowered computational requirements, maintained prediction precision, and creation of an efficient practical solution for friction-torque estimation.
