Research on Downhole Vector Steering Tools in Radial Drilling

Radial well technology provides an innovative solution for enhancing production in mature oilfields and improving resource recovery efficiency. The sidetracking tool plays a pivotal role in wellbore deflection by using its inclined surface to guide directional changes, enabling precise casing window perforation to create new oil-bearing formation access channels. This study presents an advanced downhole vector steering tool for radial wells, comprising a rotary steering system, hydraulic anchoring mechanism, and power control unit, which overcomes the limitations of conventional deflection tools. The innovative design offers multiple advantages: eliminating repeated drilling needs, enabling flexible window direction adjustment, and significantly reducing operational costs while ensuring reliable performance through its robust yet simple construction. The tool's hydraulic anchoring technology provides secure positioning with intuitive operation, facilitating efficient multi-directional slim-hole drilling from a single wellbore location with enhanced operational efficiency and substantial cost savings, representing a significant advancement in radial well construction technology.
