Research on Volume Fracturing Technology for Increasing Production of Lithic Sandstone Reservoir in Shenmu Gas Field

The Shenmu Gas Field, situated in the eastern part of the Ordos Basin, is characterized by a typical multi-layered tight sandstone gas reservoir. It exhibits a low pressure coefficient, high rock debris content, is prone to water locking, low single-well production, and poses significant challenges to economic development. To address the challenge of multiple layers within a single gas well with low yield, since 2020, with the goal of increasing single well production and enhancing block development efficiency. By refining methods for identifying fracturing sweet spot and developing tailored stimulated reservoir techniques, as well as creating specialized tools and materials, we have developed key technologies for volume fracturing that improve production in the Shenmu tight lithic sandstone reservoirs. In total, 990 directional wells and 81 horizontal wells were deployed on field, achieving an average open flow rate of 192,000 m3/day and 646,000 m3/day for gas testing, representing a more than 22% increase compared to the pre-breakthrough period, thus demonstrating a significant increase in production. The application of this technology has significantly improved the development efficiency of tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the eastern part of the Ordos basin, and also provided a reference for increasing production of similar tight sandstone reservoirs.
