Big Data Solution for Exploration and Development Business of Oil and Gas Field Enterprises

To accelerate informatization and digital transformation and optimize upstream exploration & development business processes, Sinopec Petroleum Exploration & Development Research Institute established the Exploration & Production Data Center. Recognizing that data governance is fundamental to the digital operation of oilfield enterprises and serves as the cornerstone for digital transformation, this article introduces pertinent data management models, methods, and common practical patterns. It details data governance methodologies for oilfield exploration & development, covering platform composition, governance content, and case analysis. The technical framework and key technologies of this integrated governance platform are elucidated. Currently, enterprise-level oilfield data governance within Sinopec’s upstream sector, operationalized on this integrated control platform, promotes resource sharing and application, demonstrably enhancing data asset value. Specifically, the Sinopec Data Resource Center consolidates exploration and development data from 12 oilfields. A structured data resource catalog encompassing 9 thematic domains has been established. Routine data governance is enforced through a dedicated Data Quality Control Platform, while data services for application systems are delivered via a Data Development Management Platform. This integrated approach has effectively dismantled data silos and enabled tangible data sharing and application. The article elaborates on Sinopec’s data governance blueprint and implementation pathway, combining theoretical foundations with concrete outcomes, offering practical reference for data governance practitioners.
