Adaptive Approach for Solving Health Problems Caused by Size Characteristics of the Buildings

The human-oriented design approach in accordance with human anthropometric measurements enables the functional use of buildings and the elements within them. It has been determined that many health problems arise as a result of building applications that are not based on anthropometric measurements. In this study; it is aimed to address the health problems that arise due to the size characteristics of buildings, to address the compliance of legal regulations with anthropometric measurements before the design phase and to discuss the adaptive approach in solving these health problems. The study is unique in that it deals with a subject other than health problems caused by pollutants arising from the properties of the materials in the building. The concepts of adaptability, anthropometry, human-centered design and health problems constitute the framework of the research. It is emphasized that architects, project implementers and public institutions have a common responsibility in the emergence of incompatibility between the size characteristics of the building and anthropometric measurements. Design criteria in the regulations that are not in accordance with anthropometric measurements are exemplified in Türkiye. The impact on health problems as a result of adaptive building design and production can be addressed in future studies. It is worth questioning to what extent the adaptive design approach can be effective in eliminating health problems caused by the physical characteristics of buildings.
