Developing Digital Education Ecosystem in Universities: Prospects and Challenges

The digital education ecosystem is an overarching concept for higher education in the context of digital era. Many studies have shown that Vietnamese higher education is facing many difficulties and challenges to meet the country’s socio-economic development requirements. This research used secondary documents and in-depth interviews with 25 experts from a number of higher education institutions across the country. Research results have clarified components of digital education ecosystem such as teaching and research, training programs, learning communities, digital technology infrastructure, institutions and legal corridors, and digital university management and governance. This study also confirms that students are the center of the educational ecosystem, the higher education environment is a core factor in the digital education ecosystem, and the educational environment has undergone fundamental changes in the context of university autonomy. This book chapter also points out new prospects and challenges for higher education, thereby proposing some strategic solutions to develop a digital education ecosystem in Vietnam.
