Technology Adaptation Capacity of Pedagogical Students in Vietnam

The digital technology revolution is profoundly changing the way we approach and use technology in all fields, including education. Alongside this, various theoretical perspectives have emerged to provide an understanding of the factors influencing the adoption of different technologies in the process of knowledge transfer and acquisition. Some prominent theories include the Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This book chapter provides an overview of theories related to technological adaptation capabilities and proposes an integrated theoretical framework between UTAUT and TAM. The core contribution of this chapter is to propose a new theoretical integration between UTAUT and TAM, aimed at conceptualizing and enhancing the technology adaptation capacity of pedagogical students in Vietnam. Additionally, the chapter discusses previous research findings related to the factors that drive students to adopt advanced technologies in Education 4.0, such as e-learning, mobile learning (m-learning), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Personal Learning Environments (PLE), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), as well as technologies like social media platforms, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR). Finally, the chapter concludes with insights and directions for future research on this topic.
