摘要

The ultraviolet (UV) disinfection technologies are at a new stage of scientific, clinical, and industrial revolution. In the past UV radiation has found application as a useful antimicrobial agent in the treatment of water, air purification, clinical sterilisations, and environmental protection. In the past ten years, however, discoveries in UV-C LEDs, excimer lamps, far-UV irradiation, photo biomodulation studies and intelligent digital systems have quite literally opened the possibilities of UV-based interventions. This development is particularly clear in two areas of growing topicality in the world: infection control and wound healing. With the increased complexity of infectious diseases brought about by antimicrobial resistance, ageing populations and highly mobile societies, the future generation of UV systems needs to be designed not just as fixed disinfection technologies but as dynamic, adaptive platforms as part of larger clinical and environmental systems.
