Lean Construction as a Catalyst for Success: A Conceptual Framework for Megaproject Delivery

Megaprojects persistently face challenges such as budget overruns, schedule delays, sustainability shortcomings and increased complexity with the rising attention to Lean Construction (LC). This research confirms an all-encompassing conceptual framework that places LC adoption at the heart of achieving megaproject success along three key aspects: performance, sustainability and complexity mitigation. Based on a literature survey and real-world data, from international case studies, the study methodically organizes the elements that affect LC implementation into three fundamental categories: Lean Construction Enablers (LCEs), Lean Construction Practices (LCPs), and Lean Construction Barriers (LCBs). The model was further strengthened by input from ten experienced practitioners and scholars, confirming real-world relevance and technical soundness. The findings suggest that LCA serves as a driving force for multidimensional project success through mediation. The developed framework encompasses theory and practice by providing a rationale for verification in subsequent research efforts to ensure greater success and sustainability in megaproject execution.
