Experimental Investigation on Concrete with Alccofine and Bagasse Ash as Partial Replacement to Cement

摘要

Cement production is one of the major causes of environmental pollution triggered by the release of large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere from the cement industry. There is a need to limit the use of cement in concrete. This can be achieved using industrial or agricultural wastes and supplementary cementitious material to replace a fraction of cement. The present work is carried out to study the performance of M35 grade blended concrete using alccofine-1203, a byproduct from iron ore industry and agricultural waste (i.e sugarcane bagasse ash) is used by keeping alccofine constant (10%) and varying the bagasse ash percentage (0, 5,10,15,20%). The basic tests on ingredients of concrete along with the mix design were done. The properties of hardened concrete were studied for flexural and compressive strengths. Compressive strength was also calculated using non-destructive testing i.e., rebound hammer and the concrete’s quality was assessed by pulse velocity test. The results shows that concrete with 10% alccofine and 10% bagasse ash performed better under compression and flexure compared to control and other mixes. The compressive strength of B4 mix (10% alccofine and 10% bagasse ash) is 22% higher than the control mix and flexural strength of B4 mix is 25% higher than the control and other mixes and test carried out for ultrasonic pulse velocity for all mixes shows good quality and also from the XRD analysis that the peaks intensities of SiO2, calcium aluminum iron oxide and C2S are higher compared to normal concrete which have played the major role in attaining strength parameters.
