Smart Nanosensors in Precision Agriculture

摘要

The integration of nanotechnology along with precision agriculture has emerged as an advanced concept for sustainable crop production and resource management. With respect to advanced innovations in the field of nanotechnology, nanosensors play an important role in real-time, sensitive, and specific monitoring of soil as well as plant health parameters, allowing for precise agricultural practices. Nanosensors equipped for the monitoring of soil health continuously facilitate the assessment of soil moisture, salinity, pH, nutrient monitoring, presence of heavy metals, detection of pesticides, and herbicides. Nanomaterials, including nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and various other nanostructures, allow prior identification of soil and plant health. To continue, the application of nanosensors makes it possible to monitor the use of chemicals in the agriculture industry, thus assuring a safer environment and better agrochemical practices, which are mostly sustainable. Alongside, the incorporation of soil nanosensors with smart irrigation systems leads to maximum use of water efficiently, which in turn helps in saving water and increasing crop yield. Besides, the use of nanosensors in monitoring plant health is quite significant as they allow the early detection of pathological changes occurring in the plant biome. Nanosensor technology enables the detection of plant hormones like abscisic acid, salicylic acid, auxins, etc., thus providing information about plant growth and stress conditions. In addition, the detection of plant diseases is made feasible by the use of nanosensors. The pairing of nanosensor technology with precision agriculture promotes effective and efficient crop management, hence minimizing yield losses and adopting sustainable farming practices. In conclusion, the use of nanosensors marks a new, promising area for soil–plant-environment interactions and the attainment of proper agricultural ecosystems.
