Sustainable Farming Contributed by Smart-Delivering Nanofertilizers
摘要
Sustainable agriculture aims to harmonize productivity with environmental stewardship, fostering long-term food security while minimizing ecological harm. In recent years, nanotechnology has emerged as a transformative force in agriculture, particularly through the development of nanofertilizers. Smart delivery nanofertilizers represent an innovative class of nutrient inputs designed to enhance nutrient usage efficiency (NUE), minimize losses via leaching and volatilization and mitigate the environmental consequences of conventional fertilization techniques. These nanoformulations are engineered for enhanced and targeted release, reacting to certain environmental stimuli such as pH, moisture and root exudates. Consequently, the nutrients will be accessible precisely when and where the crops necessitate them. This chapter explores the design, synthesis and mechanisms of smart nanofertilizers, highlighting their application in enhancing crop yield, soil quality and resource efficiency in smart agriculture. Emphasis is placed on environmental sustainability achieved by reduced application rates, less nutrient runoff and lowered greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, regulatory issues, cost efficiency and enduring ecological impacts are meticulously examined. The integration of smart nanofertilizers with precision farming operations offers a promising avenue for a resilient and sustainable agricultural future. This chapter concludes by identifying knowledge gaps and proposing future research areas essential for the secure advancement and widespread implementation of nanotechnology in agriculture.
