Sustainable and Smart Construction: Advancement of Building Materials and Construction Technologies

The construction industry is evolving toward sustainability and efficiency through advanced materials and innovative technologies. This paper examines modern construction techniques such as 3D printing, modular construction, robotics, and digital twin technology, along with sustainable materials like nanomaterials, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), and self-healing concrete. The objective is to bridge the gap between conventional methods and emerging clean production technologies by analyzing recent advancements, challenges, and prospects. A comprehensive literature review and case studies of smart green buildings form the methodology to evaluate the adoption and effectiveness of these innovations. Findings reveal that while sustainable materials and smart technologies enhance efficiency and environmental impact, challenges such as high costs, regulatory barriers, and workforce adaptation hinder their implementation. This review highlights the need for cost-effective solutions, regulatory improvements, and industry collaboration to accelerate the transition toward sustainable construction.
