Critical Challenges Affecting Timely and Sustainable Execution of Construction Projects in Sindh, Pakistan

摘要

The construction industry is a vital sector for any country’s economic development. However, it has been observed that this industry faces significant challenges in implementing sustainable solutions during project execution. A review of existing literature reveals that construction projects are frequently plagued by delays, and Pakistan’s construction industry is no exception. The situation has worsened following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has introduced additional hurdles, further contributing to project delays. This study aims to identify and assess the key challenges impacting the timely completion of construction projects in Sindh. Relevant challenges were first identified through a comprehensive literature review and then examined for their significance in achieving sustainable project outcomes. A questionnaire survey was developed and distributed among various construction professionals. Based on responses from 164 experts, the collected data was analyzed statistically and ranked using the Average Index method. The survey results indicate that inadequate project management is the most critical factor affecting project timelines. Additionally, rework due to errors, effective communication, Incomplete project information and adversely timely completion of projects. The findings of this study are expected to support better planning and monitoring during project execution, ultimately contributing to improved performance in Pakistan’s construction industry.
