Impacts of Climate Change on Nutritional Quality of Fruit Crops

The changing climate has had an important effect on the development and growth of fruit-producing plant species all over the world, particularly in developing countries such as Pakistan, due to a variety of factors including rising global temperatures, rainfall patterns, and variations in the weather at the moment over the past decade. Fruit-bearing plant species are under severe threat from the planet’s constant rising temperature as a result of various forms of human, industrial, and automotive activity, cutting down forests, fossil fuel burning, and overuse of conventional fertilizers to increase crop productivity. Scarcity of pure water, ecosystem disturbances, and soil degradation are all contributing factors to a decline in fruit crop land as compared to the previous few decades owing to climate change. Changes in climate circumstances also have an impact on the physical characteristics of soil, precipitation, the water process, soil quality and wellness, root structure and relationship with soil bulk density, porosity of the soil, and decreased macro and micronutrient accessibility to soil and plants. However, several fruit crops in Pakistan have been proven to be vulnerable to climate change activities. This book chapter aims to report on the effects of climate change on fruit crop growth performance. These data were gathered from several electronic websites and analyzed to determine the impact of global warming on commercial fruit crops grown around the world. To avoid a further decline of fruit crop production, rigorous enforcement against those guilty for disturbing the natural ecosystem of fruit crop cultivation regions in accordance with authorized environmental law is required immediately. Research, development, and use of new technology instruments would help maintain and promote the agricultural system while also improving fruit crop quality and output. It was found that in recent years, climate change has become a major driving force element affecting the growth and development of fruit crops, particularly in Pakistan, more than other industrialized countries. The studies also revealed some potential to aid fruit crop growers in adapting novel farming methods that might help in boosting the cultivation of high-quality fruit crops.
