Metabolic syndrome ((MetS) is a rapidly growing global health challenge characterized by obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance, significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. The high prevalence of this syndrome in South Asian populations, including Pakistan, underscores the need for effective, affordable, and sustainable therapeutic strategies. This chapter explores the potential of medicinal plants indigenous to Pakistan as complementary and alternative interventions for the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome. Drawing upon Pakistan’s rich ethnobotanical heritage and biodiversity, the chapter reviews key medicinal species, including Berberis brandisiana, Nigella sativa, Ajuga bracteosa, Viola odorata, and Ziziphus oxyphylla, highlighting their bioactive constituents and mechanisms of action in regulating glucose metabolism, lipid homeostasis, oxidative stress, inflammation, and vascular function. The therapeutic potential of these botanicals is discussed in the context of their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic, and cardioprotective properties. The chapter also addresses critical challenges related to phytochemical standardization, clinical validation, safety assessment, regulatory frameworks, and biodiversity conservation. It concludes that integrating scientifically validated medicinal plants into healthcare systems may provide cost-effective and culturally acceptable approaches for managing metabolic syndrome while promoting sustainable utilization of Pakistan’s valuable plant resources.
