Hybrid Renewable Energy System Design for Barangay Caruray, San Vicente, Palawan

摘要

This study addressed the energy challenges of Bgy. Caruray, San Vicente, Palawan—a remote community declared by the Department of Energy (2022) as an unviable/unserved area under Public Notice No. PN2022-01-0001—by designing an optimal hybrid off-grid renewable energy system (HRES). Key findings revealed that a hybrid system comprising a 1600-kW solar PV array, 350 kW wind turbines, a 1500-kW diesel generator, and 37 units of 100 kWh Li-Ion batteries emerged as the most cost-effective solution, with a Net Present Cost (NPC) of $15.85 million and a Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of $0.387/kWh. Sensitivity analysis highlights the system’s robustness under varying discount rates (8–10%) and load demands (7000–10,000 kWh/day), achieving an 80.1% renewable energy fraction. The proposed HRES reduces reliance on diesel, minimizes greenhouse gas emissions, and provides a sustainable blueprint for rural electrification.
