The Therapeutic Influence of Yoga on Well-Being and Happiness
摘要
This short chapter delves into the intricate link between well-being and happiness, stressing the pursuit of happiness as a core human goal. It explores correlations between happiness and longevity, immunity, productivity, and social engagement, drawing insights from the Dalai Lama, Aristotle, and William James. Definitions of happiness, mental balance, and health are examined from various perspectives, including Webster’s Dictionary, Seligman, and Ayurveda. The impact of modern lifestyles, technology, and psychosomatic diseases on mental well-being is highlighted, suggesting that health, harmony, and bliss are innate but often disrupted by external factors. The pursuit of happiness involves aligning with our natural state of well-being. Yoga’s role in fostering health and happiness is underscored, emphasising its holistic approach covering physical, mental, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. The Chitta Prasadanam practice promotes positive attitudes towards diverse individuals for mental clarity and happiness. The eight limbs of yoga, as advocated by Maharshi Patanjali, are explored, illustrating how ethical disciplines, postures, breathing, and meditation contribute to holistic health. Yoga principles are relevant for disease prevention, mental harmony, and sustainability in modern life. Ultimately, the chapter reinforces that health and happiness are intertwined and achievable through embracing yoga principles, encouraging prioritisation of physical, mental, and emotional well-being for enduring happiness.
