Aging, Cognitive Decline, and Depression

This chapter discusses cognitive decline and depression associated with aging. It introduces the prevalence of late-life depression, tools for accurate diagnosis, and explores white matter hyperintensities as a potential contributing factor. Additionally, it examines the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease dementia as a representative condition related to cognitive decline and late-life depression, and further describes treatment options and prognosis for late-life depression.
