Calculation for Premium and Special Selected Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

Cataract surgery has evolved from a simple procedure that restores vision to a highly sophisticated refractive surgery, where patient expectations for spectacle independence have increased significantly. The choice of intraocular lens design for cataract surgery is a critical decision that can significantly impact postoperative visual outcomes. Premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) refer to advanced lens technologies designed to correct presbyopia, astigmatism, and near and intermediate vision, providing patients with superior postoperative visual outcomes [1]. These include multifocal, trifocal, extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF), toric, accommodating, light-adjustable, and refractive-diffractive IOLs [2]. The selection and calculation of premium and specially selected IOLs require a precise understanding of corneal biomechanics, anterior chamber depth (ACD), and postoperative refractive target adjustments [3]. Errors in measurements and calculations can lead to suboptimal results, often resulting in expensive corrective procedures such as laser vision correction or IOL exchange [4, 5].
