Bamboo as Material for Design of Patient Support Equipment to Improve Healthcare Facility and Environmental Sustainability

Bamboo holds significant potential as a sustainable resource for various industries and applications in the future. Its rapid growth, versatility, and eco-friendly properties make it a promising material to address environmental and economic challenges. Even in Indian scenario it is gaining popularity as a sustainable and versatile material for various applications such as furniture and construction. This paper discusses about how bamboo can be used in the design and construction of patient support equipment which can offer several benefits, such as low cost medical equipment, environment-friendly material, and economic benefit in bamboo-producing area specifically in Northeastern state of Assam, India. Using locally available bamboo for hospital beds can contribute to eco-friendly practices and materials together with an effort to keep the cost minimum for affordability which is an important factor especially in developing countries like India, and further it will aid in better and affordable healthcare facilities.
