Corrosive Injury of the UGI Tract
摘要
Corrosive ingestion in children is mainly accidental. In adults, it may be accidental or intentional, frequently linked to suicidal attempts. Acute corrosive injury is managed conservatively unless it presents with esophageal or gastric necrosis and perforation. Esophageal stricture, a long-term consequence of corrosive injury, is initially managed with endoscopic dilatation. Failure or an undilatable stricture is an indication for reconstructive surgery. Colon is the most suitable organ for esophagogastric replacement.
