Surgery for Choledocholithiasis

CBD stones are present in 10–15% patients with gallstones. They may present with biliary colic, jaundice, cholangitis, and pancreatitis or may be asymptomatic. Where expertise is available, a single-stage laparoscopic approach is the treatment of choice in good-risk patients. ERCP and CBD clearance, followed by laparoscopic cholecystectomy in two stages, or performing ERCP and CBD clearance during the same session after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, are alternative approaches.
