摘要

Diagnosis of anal carcinoma is primarily clinical, with radiology and histology serving for confirmation. Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type of histology. The treatment of anal canal cancer has modestly shifted from surgery alone to a multimodal approach involving chemoradiotherapy. Surgery in the form of APR is reserved for nonresponders; patients are showing progression of tumor or recurrence after chemotherapy or those with uncommon histology like adenocarcinoma or melanoma.
