Innovations in Harvesting: A Sustainable Approach
摘要
Sustainable harvesting procedures are seen to be perceived as urgent in the light of long-term growing sustainability of the horticulture production system. Horticulture production and sustainability rely on harvesting; on the other hand, conventional approaches characterized by intensive labor and inefficient resource utilization are not growing at an adequate rate to meet the world’s food demands in the face of climate change and limited developing resources insufficient to provide global food requirements under climate change and resource constraints. Progress in horticulture technology and methodologies is essential for addressing global food security requirements while maintaining environmental sustainability. Recent innovations in robotics, automation, Internet of Things (IoT), precision agriculture, and biotechnology have revolutionized harvesting processes, while sustainable alternatives such as solar-powered machinery, low-till practices, and smart irrigation enhance the efficiency of resources. These additionally indicate a potential choice for automated harvesting of crops, revolutionizing current agriculture through enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and precision farming. The amalgamation of ancient practices with contemporary technologies enhances resilience and inclusion in many fields of horticulture. This chapter examines modern advances in harvesting technology and procedures that enhance environmental stewardship, economic efficiency, and social welfare in the horticulture sector. The discussion also included the importance of digital tools, such as IoT, data analytics, and blockchain, in improving traceability and optimizing harvest processes.
