Scaling up Organic Horticulture for Sustainable Global Growth

Organic horticulture has been recognised as a global movement adhering to the principles of ecology and sustainability, and the world has acknowledged this as the best solution to the environmental, health, and economic issues related to conventional farming. This chapter gives a comprehensive overview of organic horticulture, highlighting its historical background, development, and current state globally and in India. It points out the transition from traditional practices to certified organic production systems and emphasises the role of indigenous knowledge and innovations in shifting the paradigms of organic farming. Some of the mentioned ways also include the integration of organic practices with such digital tools as the cloud, IoT, and machine learning, alongside value chain development, and climate-smart approaches.
