Knowledge Transfer and Digital Skill Architecture: The Skillnote Case

This chapter focuses on knowledge transfer as a central challenge in digital transformation and examines the Skillnote platform as a solution for managing manufacturing capabilities. Manufacturing expertise is often embedded in tacit knowledge accumulated through years of practice, making it difficult to replicate or transfer across teams and generations. Skillnote addresses this problem by creating a digital infrastructure that visualizes and manages workforce capabilities as operational data. Instead of treating training as a separate HR activity, the platform integrates skill information into daily production management. Firms can identify skill distribution, monitor proficiency levels, and design targeted development pathways aligned with operational needs. By transforming traditional skill matrices into dynamic digital maps, Skillnote enables organizations to manage human capability with the same rigor applied to equipment and quality management. The case illustrates how digital skill architecture supports the preservation and multiplication of tacit expertise, enabling manufacturing firms to sustain analog strengths while integrating digital coordination capabilities within the ADX framework.
