Functional interaction between the nervous and endocrine systems plays a crucial role in sodium and water balance regulation, steroid production, glucose metabolism, and thyroid function. The crosstalk between the brain and the endocrine system is particularly evident in various forms of brain injury, including traumatic brain injury, hemorrhage, or tumors. This chapter describes different forms of brain–endocrine crosstalk, with special focus on the clinical implications of this interaction in perioperative medicine and neurocritical care.
