In this chapter, Alastair discusses how nature, the changing seasons, and the community play a large part in Japanese life, traditional religions and customs. He talks about Japanese education, the group mentality and how the concept of mottainai (don’t waste a thing) is deeply rooted in Japanese society and culture.
