Many studies have suggested that rich life experience, deep reflection, and social interaction are important for wisdom development. However, empirical research on the potential role of formal education for growth of wisdom is only emerging. This chapter examines how wise practice can be nurtured by developing attributes related to wisdom in formal educational settings, particularly in higher education. Major theoretical models on wisdom pedagogy are presented after which examples of recent empirical studies are described, including a study on Neo-Socratic dialogue in teacher education, practice-based learning in sustainable management education, and a quantitative study on pedagogical practices explaining the development of attributes related to wisdom. As a conclusion, two basic principles of wisdom pedagogy are presented related to ethical, supportive and positive school culture, and diverse teaching and learning methods. Ultimately, fostering wisdom development is suggested as the key aim of education.

摘要
