Discussion of Flood Disaster in Central Himalaya with Gravity Anomalies and Seismic Activities

  • Kutubuddin Ansari

摘要

The geological features and fault structures in the Himalayas play a major role during earthquakes or any natural disaster, such as a flood. The current discussion about the rugged topography, weak geological formations, and active seismic conditions is the major reason for flood disasters in the central Himalaya. The impact of topographic and gravity measurements on the rainfall and the change of glaciers is discussed in the study. Gravity anomalies, horizontal and vertical filter methods, and ratio tests are used to delineate the edge of geological structures in the central Himalayas. Finally, the earthquake catalog is modeled, and a quantile–quantile plot is plotted to show its relation with geological structure. These earthquake events increase the landslides, dam failures, and river blockage-related floods in the Himalaya.
